Mesmer is the most unique class of any games I’ve played. It has varied over the years but chrominance is incredible for power and boon builds. Mirage has both very strong power builds and exceptionally strong condition and boon builds as well. Mirage has become my favorite. 3.
Guardian - Has always been in the meta in some form or another. You can play as Power DPS, Condi (burn) DPS or Support (not ideal for WvW, but great for sPvP). Warrior - Simple, brutal, efficient. Easy to play, hard to master, medium effectiveness. Engineer - Core Engi is more trouble than it is worth atm.
Choice of race makes absolutely not mechanical difference. Yes , they do get unique race based Racial Elite skills but the racial skills are typically so poor in comparison to the Class Elite skills that you should never bother with ‘em. Just pick whichever you think looks best.
Technically in fractals Power Weaver has the highest burst when the Soulbeast shares One Wolf Pack, but it's a somewhat more difficult rotation and a bit squishy and team-reliant. Opinions on all of them will vary and there's varities within them that can go either condi/power. What feels good this month, won't in 2 months. GW2 for all its pros picking a class is probably the most punishing aspect due to constant balance shifts. There used to be safer choices like Firebrand & Mechanist (due to Dev favoritism) but now its a hot mess. Berserker is probably the best melee dps at the moment. Yf4i.
